Andrew McDermott

Andrew McDermott is a passionate educator with over 15 years of experience in PK–12 education and teacher preparation. He began his career in Houston public schools as a classroom teacher, instructional coach, and campus administrator—roles that deepened his belief in the power of well-prepared teachers to transform student outcomes.
At YES Prep Public Schools, Andrew held multiple leadership roles within the Teaching Excellence alternative certification program, where he led efforts to strengthen practice-based coursework, coaching systems, and certification processes. He later served as Program Manager at the US PREP National Center, partnering with educator preparation programs, school districts, and state agencies to drive quality improvement. Most recently, he has worked as an independent contractor supporting technical assistance, program review, educator training, and curriculum design.
Andrew earned a B.A. in History from Rice University and is a certified Texas educator. He enjoys traveling, NPR, cooking, and hiking in the Great Smoky Mountains.
